The .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) was designed by John Moses Browning in 1904. It is a highly effective combat pistol cartridge and has remained a mainstay of military and law enforcement ever since. It combines accuracy as well as stopping power for use against human targets, has relatively low muzzle flash, and produces moderate recoil in handguns.

The .45 also has considerably greater knockdown power than the 9mm due to its larger size and slower velocity that creates a larger wound channel and transfers more energy to the target.

230 grain .45 ammo is subsonic with a muzzle velocity of 830 feet per second, well below the 1125 fps speed of sound, which makes it an excellent candidate for suppressor use.
